DST News: Senegal’s 18-year-old promising goalkeeper, Cheikh Touré, lost his life after failing to pay ransom. The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the incident.
Touré, who trained as a goalkeeper at the Esprit Foot Yembeul academy, was lured into a trap by a fraud ring. The gang took him to neighboring Ghana under the pretense of offering him a trial with a foreign football club. They later demanded a large sum of money as ransom from his family. However, when his family failed to pay the ransom within the deadline, the criminals brutally killed Touré.
A joint investigation by Senegal and Ghana is now underway, and the process of repatriating Cheikh’s body to Senegal is ongoing.
