DST News: In October 2024, Joe Root became England’s highest run-scorer in Test cricket and climbed to second place on the all-time global Test runs list, just behind Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Fast bowler Lauren Bell received the women’s award, while England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed was honoured as the young player of the year.

Root expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s a real privilege to receive an award bearing the great Bob Willis’s name. Being recognised by those who follow every ball of cricket around the world means a great deal to me.”
