DST News: More than two weeks after a ceasefire took effect, Gaza’s hunger crisis remains dire, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned, as dozens of aid agencies accuse Israel of arbitrarily rejecting humanitarian shipments into the famine-stricken territory.
In a joint statement released on Thursday, forty-one relief organizations said the supplies entering Gaza were far from sufficient to meet the population’s nutritional needs. The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) reported that deliveries into the enclave were still well below its daily target of 2,000 tonnes, with only two border crossings currently open.
“The situation remains catastrophic because what’s entering is not enough,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “There is no reduction in hunger because there simply isn’t enough food.”
Images from the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza showed children lining up for meals from a charity kitchen on October 21—just a week after the ceasefire began—highlighting the continuing struggle to access basic nutrition in the blockaded region.
