DST News: Fourteen platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur as part of heightened security measures ahead of a major war crimes verdict expected from the International Crimes Tribunal-1.
BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam confirmed that the deployment was ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a precautionary step to ensure public safety and maintain order.
“Fourteen platoons have been positioned in the capital and nearby districts to support local administration and other law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and stability,” Islam told reporters.
According to officials, 12 platoons have been stationed at key points within Dhaka city, while the remaining two are operating in Narayanganj and Gazipur City Corporation areas. The deployment comes amid a visible tightening of security in and around government installations, court complexes, and major city intersections.
Law enforcement sources said patrols and surveillance have been intensified to deter any untoward incidents. Senior officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the administrations of Narayanganj and Gazipur held coordination meetings earlier in the day to assess the situation and allocate forces strategically.
The increased security presence coincides with the tribunal’s preparation to set the verdict date in the case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her close associates, accused of crimes against humanity — a case that has drawn widespread domestic and international attention.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel, assuring that every necessary step is being taken to ensure public safety and maintain normal life.
