DST News: Hamas said on Sunday that Israel’s killing of senior commander Raed Saed threatens the stability of the Gaza ceasefire, urging the United States to press Israel to adhere to the truce agreement.
Thousands of Hamas supporters gathered in Gaza City for Saed’s funeral, marking one of the group’s largest public rallies since a U.S. backed ceasefire took effect in October. Saed and three aides were killed in an Israeli strike a day earlier.
Hamas chief negotiator Khalil al Hayya said the assassination was a serious violation of the ceasefire and could undermine the agreement. He called on U.S. President Donald Trump to act as guarantor and ensure Israel’s compliance.
Israel has said Saed played a central role in the October 7, 2023 attack that sparked the war. Hamas later announced it had appointed a successor and said the killing would not alter its military course.
Israeli forces continue to control Gaza’s eastern areas, while Hamas has reasserted influence in the west, where most of the population remains displaced amid widespread destruction.
