DST News: World leaders have issued mixed reactions after the US launched large-scale strikes on Venezuela and captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who face drug charges in New York. While US allies such as the UK welcomed the end of Maduro’s rule, many countries condemned the action as a violation of sovereignty and international law.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain would “shed no tears” over Maduro’s downfall but stopped short of judging the legality of the strikes. Russia, China, Iran and several Latin American nations, including Brazil, Colombia, Cuba and Chile, denounced the attack as armed aggression and an assault on regional sovereignty.

US President Donald Trump said Washington would “run” Venezuela until a safe transition is achieved. Argentina’s President Javier Milei voiced support, while the EU, France and Germany called for a peaceful, democratic transition respecting international law. The UN secretary general warned the strikes set a dangerous precedent.
