DST News: The last Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters have left Aleppo following a ceasefire agreement after days of deadly clashes, officials said. Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib confirmed that the city is now free of SDF fighters after government forces coordinated their overnight evacuation.
SDF commander Mazloum Abdi said the ceasefire, reached through international mediation, allowed the evacuation of fighters, civilians, and the wounded from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighbourhoods to northern and eastern Syria.
The withdrawal followed the Syrian army’s takeover of the Kurdish-majority Sheikh Maqsoud area after talks to integrate the SDF into the national army collapsed. At least 30 people were killed and more than 150,000 displaced during the fighting.
