US–Iran talks seen as key to averting conflict

DST News: The United States and Iran have begun a third round of indirect talks in Geneva, mediated by Badr Albusaidi, amid heightened tensions and a major US military buildup in the Middle East. Omani officials said both sides showed openness to “new and creative ideas,” though prospects for a deal remain uncertain.

The talks come as Donald Trump warns of possible military action if no nuclear agreement is reached, while Iran insists it will not halt uranium enrichment but is open to limited concessions. Iran’s delegation is led by Abbas Araghchi, with the US represented by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Iran seeks sanctions relief in exchange for constraints on its nuclear programme, but disputes persist over missiles and regional proxies. Regional allies warn that failure of diplomacy could trigger a wider conflict.
