DST News: Millions of mourners began gathering early Saturday morning (July 4) at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran to attend the funeral prayers of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint military strike by the United States and Israel.
According to journalists from AFP, the vast prayer complex was already packed with mourners well before the official funeral proceedings began. The entire venue was filled with grieving crowds who had come to pay their final respects.
Eyewitnesses said the central courtyard of the Grand Mosalla was filled to capacity as hundreds of thousands—eventually swelling into the millions—gathered to honor the late leader.
Authorities imposed extensive traffic control measures throughout the Iranian capital to manage the massive turnout and ensure security during the funeral ceremony.
Another AFP correspondent reported that many mourners were forced to walk several kilometres to reach the Grand Mosalla due to road closures and severe traffic congestion. Despite the difficulties, they made the journey to pay their final tribute to the slain leader.
