Ukrainian Tennis Player Says Only Roland Garros Towel Survived Russian Strike

DST News: Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska says her family’s apartment in the southern port city of Odesa was destroyed in a Russian aerial attack.

Yastremska said the apartment suffered a direct hit from a Kalibr cruise missile. She shared images of the damaged building on social media, saying that almost nothing survived the strike.

The 26-year-old tennis player said the only item that survived was a Roland Garros towel from last year’s French Open, which was left hanging from the wreckage.

Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper said 37 people were injured, including a baby, while two people remained missing after missile and drone attacks on Odesa and nearby Chornomorsk on Friday night.

Yastremska, who reached the Australian Open semifinals in 2024, is currently ranked 113th in the women’s singles world rankings. She also called on the WTA and the International Tennis Federation to see the impact of the war through the eyes of Ukrainians.
