DST News: Garment workers from several factories in Fatullah blocked the Dhaka–Narayanganj Link Road on Monday, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. The demonstration disrupted traffic and brought vehicle movement to a halt.
According to Tarek Al Mehedi, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) in Narayanganj, workers gathered in the Katherpul area of Kutubail in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila at around 11:30am before blocking the road at approximately noon.
Workers from several factories, including Metro Knitting, Palmal Garments, Abir Fashion, and Azad-Rifat Dyeing, joined the protest, according to a representative of a workers’ organization.
Police confirmed that a team had been deployed to the area to address the situation and restore normal traffic movement. Authorities were also holding discussions with the protesters to bring the situation under control.
The workers’ demand for a Tk 30,000 minimum monthly wage reflects growing pressure on garment employees to cope with rising living costs and household expenses. The incident once again highlights the need for constructive dialogue among workers, factory owners, and the government to resolve wage-related concerns while maintaining industrial stability.
