DST News: Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has instructed the chiefs of the three armed forces to take comprehensive measures to ensure maximum security for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, scheduled for the first half of February next year.

The directive came during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan at the State Guest House Jamuna this evening, according to a release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman was also present.

During the discussion, Professor Yunus praised the armed forces for their unwavering role in safeguarding national security and maintaining law and order. “All members of the armed forces have worked diligently over the past 15 months to uphold stability across the country,” he said, reiterating the interim government’s commitment to holding a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful election in February.

The service chiefs briefed the Chief Adviser on their respective preparations for election duties. According to their report, around 90,000 army personnel, over 2,500 navy members, and 1,500 air force personnel will be deployed nationwide to maintain order during the polls, with one army company assigned to each upazila.

The chiefs also extended an invitation to Professor Yunus to attend the Armed Forces Day celebration on November 21.
