DST News: The G7 nations have strongly denounced Russia’s recent assaults on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which Kyiv described as acts of “nuclear terrorism.”

In a joint statement on Friday, the G7 energy ministers said Moscow’s attacks were causing “devastating social, environmental, and economic consequences” for Ukrainians and threatening the country’s energy security ahead of winter.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry accused Russia of deliberately targeting power facilities that supply electricity to nuclear plants, calling the strikes a serious breach of international law. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said the attacks aimed to “plunge Ukraine into darkness,” as waves of missiles and drones hit energy sites across multiple regions, killing seven people.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that three nuclear plants had to reduce power output due to the strikes, warning of ongoing risks to nuclear safety.

Kyiv has introduced nationwide electricity restrictions after the attacks, while Moscow insists it only targets military infrastructure and accuses Ukraine of similar assaults on Russian energy sites.

The G7 pledged continued support for rebuilding Ukraine’s energy sector through financial aid, investment guarantees, and long-term recovery initiatives.
