PM Calls for Moving Beyond Certificate-Based Education

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed the workshop titled *“Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap to Sustainable Excellence.”*

DST News: At a workshop titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap to Sustainable Excellence,” Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged universities to move away from rote learning and certificate-based education. He emphasized the need for skill-based, technology-driven, and research-oriented education to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Prime Minister said universities should strengthen collaboration with industries, update curricula according to market needs, and focus more on innovation, research, internships, and entrepreneurship. He highlighted that unemployment among graduates is increasing because many students lack practical skills despite academic qualifications.

He also stressed the importance of AI, robotics, biotechnology, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies in shaping future employment. The government plans to promote apprenticeship programs, innovation grants, science parks, and industry-academia partnerships to prepare students for global competition.

The workshop was held at University of Dhaka on Tuesday.
