DST News: The Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen has warned that any attempt by Yemen’s Houthi rebels to target Saudi Arabia will be met with “unprecedented determination and force.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said recent Houthi threats were intended to divert attention from what he described as the group’s “grave violations” against the Yemeni people.
Al-Maliki said the coalition would respond decisively to any attack targeting the Kingdom, its citizens, residents, critical infrastructure, or Yemen’s sovereignty, while acting in accordance with customary international humanitarian law.
The warning came after the Iran-backed Houthi movement threatened on Friday to target Saudi airports and other strategic interests on land and at sea.
Al-Maliki accused the Houthis of worsening Yemen’s humanitarian and economic crisis and attempting to shift the consequences of their actions to neighboring countries. He also said the group had rejected peace initiatives and a proposed political roadmap accepted by Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
The coalition further accused the Houthis of disrupting international shipping in the southern Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait and of causing extensive damage to key civilian infrastructure, including ports, Sana’a International Airport, power stations, and industrial facilities.
The Saudi-led coalition has backed Yemen’s internationally recognized government since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, in 2014.
