DST News: Venezuela has accused the United States of pursuing “continental ambitions” in Latin America, warning the UN Security Council that US actions against Caracas mark the first stage of a broader strategy. Speaking at the UNSC, Venezuela’s ambassador Samuel Moncada said Washington aims to divide and dominate the region, with Venezuela as its initial target.

The warning follows recent US air strikes and a naval blockade, which Washington claims are aimed at stopping drug trafficking. Venezuela rejects the justification, saying more than 100 people have been killed in what it calls illegal and extrajudicial attacks.
