DST News: China has strongly condemned the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during joint US–Israeli strikes on Tehran, describing the act as a serious violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international law.
In a statement issued on Sunday, China’s Foreign Ministry said the killing constituted a “grave breach of Iran’s sovereignty and security” and undermined the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international relations. The statement, published on the social media platform X, emphasized that Beijing “firmly opposes and strongly condemns” the attack.
China also renewed its call for an immediate end to military operations in the Middle East, urging all parties to work collectively to preserve regional and global peace and stability.
Iranian authorities confirmed early Sunday that Khamenei, aged 86, was killed following heavy US–Israeli bombardment of the Iranian capital on Saturday. Tehran subsequently declared 40 days of nationwide mourning.
According to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Khamenei was killed at his office in Tehran. The council stated that his death would mark the beginning of what it described as a “great uprising against the tyrants of the world.”
Prior to Iran’s official confirmation, former US President Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that Khamenei was “dead,” a post that drew widespread international attention.
China’s condemnation adds to growing global reactions to the killing, as concerns mount over escalating tensions and the risk of wider instability across the Middle East.
